Reasonably well acted and intelligent melodrama that descends into cliche from time to time, but Lohman's mature performance always keeps it watchable.

The way they portrayed Astrid's life and her relationship with each foster home as well as the affect her mother had on her was amazing. It was interesting to see how her mother had an influence from such a great distance.
