Potent thriller that defines brainless writing

Starring: Dennis Quaid, Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana.

To be frank, if one forgets loose ends and logic less questions about how, come a naxalite suddenly apply brakes after seeing a small child, when he has killed thousands of people? Well if you forget this scene , then vantage point is thumbs up. For others, who are not satisfied with the scene, you would be thinking over again and again, how did hell break lose? There may be few questions in viewers mind. Is Vantage Point a solid thriller? Does the plot engage ? Does the writing join loose ends ? Well, I am writing this review to answer those questions. Director Pete Travis ( from the television) has taken up his first motion picture. Assisted by his writer, Levy Vantage point sets a …

"Vantage Point" by Yojimbo

A terrorist plot to assassinate the president of the US of A is witnessed from differing viewpoints in the crowd, unravelling an underlying conspiracy. The central conceit of Vantage Point of portraying the same events from different viewpoints is now a very familiar one (Kurosawa did it over half a century ago) and the first half of the film did feel like being trapped in Groundhog Day, but once it settles down it turns into a fairly servicable action thriller. The above par cast certainly help, although the bad guys may as well have been wearing black stetsons making the "twist" deeply unsurprising when it happens but some extremely well done set pieces, particularly a thrilling car chase very much in the spirit of the Bourne films, make it pretty entertaining. It is unfortunately …

Pretty Fun!

Coming into this film, I knew that the first forty-five minutes or so were a series of scenes that go back in time so I was not completely annoyed by it. Don't get me wrong--it did get tiring and the last two rewind in time felt pointless--but as a whole, this picture is not bad at all. The action scenes were exciting and there are more than a handful of scenes that are like puzzle pieces that need to be put together in order to see the bigger picture. Sure, some of the "twists" were predictable but they made sense. It was nice to see Dennis Quaid as one of the president's protectors who has had experience with a prior assassination attempt. He was convincing because he was shaking, paranoid, and sweating the whole time. Although the gravity of the situation is quite dire, there were …

From My Vantage Point, Great Movie

Pretty basic premise to the movie. There's an assassination attempt on the President in a public square, and you get to see it from the perspective of several different people like a body guard, tourist, and so on. After a while from one perspective, usually after that character has a revelation that will push the story significantly forward, it flashes back to the beginning with someone else. If you hate repetition , this movie isn't for you. At a certain point, I was ready to get the story moving forward. Fortunately, not long after it did. With every new vantage point, more and more gets revealed until an action packed, revealing ending where almost every question gets answered.

The pacing could be just a bit quicker, and the very end was a bit dumb when a tv station …

Echoes of Silence

If you have not seen the TV show called 24 then I recommend you to see it first. The plot is pretty much the same and the only difference I see is how the scenes are not divided into different windows and also without that striking sound of a ticking clock. But what I did like was even though I knew the plot sounds old, the fact that it was seen through the eyes of eight different persons is such innovative way to tell the story. Where each and everyone's perception is unique and who would have known who are the good guys from the bad guys. It’s like a feeling of that same rush of excitement like I did when I’ve seen 24 for the first time. The execution was well delivered and every gun shots and car chases were exhilarating. And also they got right on with the action and did not …

Vantage Point -- less.......

Shelly - wrote on 02/25/2008

If you are looking for an action packed-twister -- this movie will satisfy.
However, if you are looking for that "most awesome movie" title - keep looking.
Vantage point frustrates -- after the 5th time of seeing the same sequence of events - you start to groan when the screen fades to black and the time resets back to noon.
The car chase is reminiscent of a "fast and the furious, rice grinder sceen" and tends to get a little dizzying with the camera angles. There are a few surprises which are good - but, the whole movie lacks that extra something to make it a huge hit. Matthew Fox is good as usual and Dennis Quaid does surprising well for the lack of lines that he has to deliver. The ending wraps everything up into a nice little package. Worth the money for the ticket - …
