Combining a musical and a slasher film, "Sweeney Todd" features Johnny Depp at his devilish best as the malicious, but likable title character.

I guess I'm a troglodyte since I was bored by this film. It looks good and there are some catchy musical numbers but man, to me this was just an overindulgence of everything to expect from a Tim Burton film.

Tim Burton does an admirable job of adding his macabre visual flair onto his adaptation of the dark musical. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter give broad performances and the production design drips black humor. The real star is the soundtrack, which probably accounts for three of the four stars of my rating, but, so what, I'm a sucker for musicals.

Who would ever thought Johnny Depp could sing. I mean none of the musical numbers were Oscar worth but they were still good. Johnny Depp stars as Sweeney Todd a former barber whose Wife and daughter were stripped away from him years ago. He is now out for blood and man do I mean he is out for blood. Helen Bonham Carter does a really good job as his psychologically screwed up partner in crime. It is awesome to see Alan Rickman as Judge Turpin getting away from his roles in the PG rated Harry Potter series. Timothy Spall as Beadle Badford also does a really good job. The ending is amazing although I wish it could have gone differently. Go rent this movie please.

Tim Burton offers a brilliant, dark, spectacular envisioning of Stephen Sondheim's brilliantly crafted gothic musical "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." I saw this play on stage, produced for a live stage version, and now its come full circle into an Academy Award-nominated film. Wonderful. The take is artistic, graphic, and amazing with brilliant lead actors Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Timothy Spall. Oh, the little kid who plays Tobie is great too. See this movie with an open heart, mind, and menacing leer.

It's a pretty good movie. But, it's a little too predictable.

I have yet to be disappointed by the pairing of Depp and Burton, and Sweeney Todd is no exception. Dark, bloody, black humor and even the music is good. A great supporting cast (especially Sacha Baron Cohen) make this a dark pleasure.

Very good movie, but somehow not excellent. The cast is good, the acting is good, the singing is good and the story starts good. It even has Johnny Depp in the lead role, but somehow it starts to be boring at the point where they just continuously kill peolpe. Its a great idea for a movie though, because it is new and different. I still feel they could have made it better, but don't miss it. This is something you have to see...

It's saturated in period detail and Tim Burton's direction gives the story some class, but it lacks character development, and it should've been much more gorier. The music isn't very memorable, but Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter are a pleasure to watch. Final Grade: B
