The theatrically released sequel to Richard Donner's "Superman" has some very good sequences, but the story's writing often drags and is sometimes a bit illogical.

A very good sequel to the biggest superhero icon.

While Lester's penchant for comedy can sometimes undermine otherwise wonderfully dramatic moments, the original Superman II is an intelligent, fast-paced, and very imaginative superhero film with a great cast (in particular Terence Stamp's aristocratic General Zod).

Criminal's General Zod, Ursa and Non were able to get free from a hydrogen bomb explosion in space. Clark involves Louis Lane with his secret and invites her to the Fortress of Solitude. The 3 try to wreck havoc and threatens mankind. It showed the wits of Superman instead of only using his powers. Despite the dated effects, childish humor, annoying female character and cheesy dialogue, this boasts a more challenging opponent with more action. Product placement was obvious during the city fights. Superman II was a good sequel, if only they made an interesting Louis Lane.

This is a decent sequel that doesn't probe the inner workings of Superman's emotions as the first film does. What it does offer, though, is a trio of memorable villains and Christopher Reeve's same bold and heroic performance.

Solid continuation of the 'Superman' series. The action is good, the humor funny, and the performances just right. There are a few scenes that don't quite work, but overall I did find this to be an enjoyable sequel.

Yet another super hero sequel that exceeds its original. A story filled with heart and emotion and some great action. I'd recommend the Richard Donner cut. Its much better than the Richard Lester version. But both are good in their own way.

I don't really remember much about this movie. I just remember liking it as a kid.

I actually find this to be the best of the Christopher Reeve "Superman" films. Granted, the fight scenes appear a little dated, but the story was tight and it hit all the right emotional notes. Some of the fight scenes look a little hap-hazard because of product placement issue. In particular, the makers of Marlboro actually got some creative control over the finished film to include scenes of a Marlboro truck during the fight between Superman and the three supervillains. You can view this and several other clips at: http://smokescreeners.org/post/2009/01/15/Superman-II-(1980).aspx. Obviously, this film got a SmokeScreeners rating of 4 Butts!

Compared to the new breed of superhero films, Superman II looks campy and outdated. However, out of all the original Superman films, I think I like this one the best. Hackman and Reeve both play their parts better, and it has Zod.
