Writer/director Kelly tries to put too many ideas and personal beliefs in at one time. He has overstuffed what could've been a twist filled, sci-fi caper and turned it into a big mess. There are moments of genius and some good dark humor, but anything else is just lost. All the extra meandering just slowed down the movie and made me loose interest.

The Darko imperfections were due to budgets (in my opinion) so with a star studded cast, this must be good. Well, it was decent but not really. See it if you want to but don't expect anything good. Future may dictate different - doubt it.

Come on, everybody. "Southland Tales" is not as awful as you say. Yeah, its interesting pieces don't add up to an entertaining whole, but you've got to cut a little slack for the genius who gave us "Donnie Darko". I guess I don't understand the word "pretentious" in regards to this film. I mean, I don't think the writer-director was purposely trying to show off and I think there's some method to his madness. He suffered from a failure in execution. Some parts I even flatout liked. For example, I don't know how or why he got so many Saturday Night Live people involved, but I thought it was great. I won't recommend this one; too many people don't like it. But I'm going to appreciate it. Just a little bit.
