A Clockwork Orange
4/4 stars

If you can make it thrugh this whole movie without pausing it or turning away, you deserve an award. Several people are beaten to death, two on screen rapes, drugs and language. That is all cupcakes, however, to alex's Reconditioning, the hardest thing i've sit through since Schindler's list. It's the emotional side of it that makes it so disturbing, even though it isn't violent like the first 30 minuates.

A Clockwork orange is essentially in 3 parts:

The First part is about a gang of white boys who live thier daily lives breaking the law, raping women, doing drugs and beating poor people to death, even though they are all under 18. Eventually, Thier leader, Alex, gets caught beating a women to death, and is sent to jail.

The second part is about Alex in jail. wanting to get out, he signs up to be like a human mouse for a goverment test called "reconditioning" to get out of jail. He is forced to watch footage of rape and beatings, some footage of Hitler. Alex has a hard time watching these videos. When the reconditioning is over, alex is a free man.

The third part is when alex is let back into the real world, but he cannot do the things he used to or he gets phisically ill. The people he took advantage of now take advantage of this, and in a long time Alex is forced to listen to bethoven, part of his reconditioning, and he attempts suicide. When he is unsuccessful, he is no longer bound to the boundries created by his reconditioning. The ending implies that he went back to his normal life.

The acting is basicly a one man show, seeing as Alex is the only character that is important in the whole movie. Malcom Mcdowell pulls it off perfectly. He is very frightening and creepy, a older version of Heath Ledgers joker, without the make-up.

Stanley Kubrick does a great job as well. The way his camera cuts to the different angles and sides of Alex is one of the creepiest things i have ever seen in a movie.

Keep in mind as well that this is one of two films to be rated X apon administration to be nominated for best picture. A Clockwork Orange is banned in 6 countries for the first 30 minutes. Not for the kids, most will have to be around 16 to handle this movie.
