Good film - but not a good memory
3/4 stars
We own the night
The movie sets with a dynamic tone, filled with suspense, violence, love, and finally murder – the total ingredients to keep audiences awake. The audience is not only awake, but also keep on guessing and thinking – this is done by the movie, beautifully setting a new theme in the story – an actual antagonist turning into the main protagonist.
Apart from all the guns, and gruesome blood stains that is depicted throughout the movie, there is also a character that actually ventures to change his whole life. Bobby changes from a man who makes a living from sex, parties and night clubs. Suddenly, after the result of Bobby’s brother’s injury, Bobby changes his identity and personality – from a hedonist to a police cop hero. This does not occur in most mafia, over dramatic movies - meaning “we own the night” has been able to gain a few more points on originality.
Although, “We own the Night” has attracted few, it only scores low for it's long lasting affect on people. The movie may only be popular once you are in the cinema, but after you’re out of the cinema and think back to it, you only remark on how cliché and pointless the movie was, as you’ve watched endless gangster films that film the cinema all the time. And the ones that would ever remain memorable are the very first gangster films, thats including the God Father, and any gangster film after that could never be as brilliant as the previous blockbuster gangster films.
